Stretch Therapy

Everyone needs to stretch, but we never make time for it. For those of you in San Antonio with athletic or sports injuries, we’ve got you covered in this advanced style of massage therapy. Jeni’s combination of Myofascial Ashiatsu Range of Motion and Thai/Shiatsu Bodywork has been beneficial for many chronic conditions such as back pain, arthritis, bursitis, fatigue, stress, depression and more. Why not combine your deep tissue massage with some deep facilitated stretches?

What is Myofascial Ashiatsu Range of Motion?

This is a form of advanced ashiatsu barefoot massage combined with a variety of stretch theories, including Contract/Relax, Reciprocal Inhibition, Pin & Stretch, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation, and others, with a focus on neutral joint alignment and stretching along fascial lines. Compression of muscle tissue is applied throughout the session, combined with active, resistive and passive movements help to release spasm, muscle contraction and tension, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY all this helps to reprogram your nervous system and break pain cycles.

What is Thai Bodywork?

It’s transformative, it’s profound, it’s yoga that we do to you, and it works like a charm. This style of massage comes from Thailand, and follows the patterns of your breathing as we apply deep compressions to your bones, joints, muscles, tendons and fascial tissue (note that means FASCIA, or connective tissue, not “facial” – we don’t work on your face!) while you are positioned in strategic contortions. Combined with Shiatsu techniques, Jeni’s hands, feet, knees, hips… whatever it takes… will squish and knead your nagging aches out of sight.

How does it work?
In a Range of Motion session, the client relaxes on a comfortable massage table while the therapist stands on the table holding onto overhead bars for balance and support. In a Thai session, you’ll lay on a big, wide paddle floor mat with more room to move around. Either way, Jeni will apply deep stretches which directly address stuck areas within your connective tissue and joints. The advantage of these massages — both for the client and the therapist — is that the massage therapist’s body offers amazing leverage and weight to provide a sustained stretch that you are not likely to reach on your own, and is unmatched by other techniques.

What will my Stretch Therapy session feel like?
Performed without any oils or creams, these services require the client to wear loose flexible clothing, allowing the therapist to stretch the client’s body beyond its holding patterns. The client relaxes either on a floor mat or a massage table, and will feel many gentle compressions along lines of muscle tension. With each long, slow stretch the client will feel the stress, pain and tension melt away. These Stretch Therapy massages revitalizes the body, and breaks chronic pain cycles set in stone within your muscle memory and fascial tissue.
